Daniel Spencer, 46, was shot multiple times and killed on Aurora’s West Side on December 6. Spencer recently worked at Chef Amaury in downtown Aurora, and was “a good guy that we all cared about and liked very much.” Anyone with details is encouraged to call the police.

Aurora Police are investigating the shooting of two men, one of whom died from his injuries, that occurred late in the evening on December 6, on the city’s West Side.

At about 11:35 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a shots-fired call in the 200 block of West Park Avenue at Wilder and upon arrival, discovered a 46-year-old Aurora man, Daniel W. Spencer of the 300 block of Plum Street, laying on a sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds including one to his head.

At this time, it appears Spencer may have been shot by someone possibly in an older box-style silver SUV, similar to a Suzuki Sidekick that was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed. Police have no further suspect or vehicle information.

Spencer was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after receiving initial treatment at Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. He was pronounced dead at about 4:30 a.m.

At about midnight, police learned of a second gunshot victim, a 29 year old Aurora man, who had been dropped off at Mercy Hospital. He told police that he was walking in the area of West Park and Lake Street when he was shot, possibly by someone in a dark-colored SUV. He ran to a friend’s home in the area who transported him to the hospital. He was treated and released for a gunshot wound to his shoulder.

Police believe that Spencer and the 29 year old man were shot in the same incident. A motive for the shootings has not been established.

Spencer was recently employed as a cook at Chef Amaury at 33 West in downtown Aurora. He was described as “gentle” and a “southern gentleman” by coworkers.

Amaury Rosado, owner of Chef Amaury, said that Spencer was a family man who was well-liked. Their last conversation was on Friday night about the Bears. Spencer was a Dallas Cowboys fan. “He had a great sense of humor,” Rosado said.
